The google Gmail team has added a Google Docs preview to check out those documents and spreadsheets in Gmail. You can view office documents from the comfort of your inbox, rather than being forced to open it up in a separate tab. The feature can currently be enabled in Labs. Clicking the Show Preview link will make the doc or spreadsheet appear inside your inbox.
